Directions to Hindagala Temple

Hindagala Temple is situated on the road from Peradeniya to Deltota. Few kilometers from the Galaha junction and drive through the Peradeniya campus. The entrance is at the left hand side of the road when you driving from Kandy or Peradeniya. There is two access to the temple. One is a stone steps from the main road. you can see a sign board with directions to Hindagala temple there. Other one is a road up to the hill located some meters away from the stairs. If you are visiting with your own vehicle, you can drive up to the hill some far along that road. You can also arrive there by bus very easily from Kandy or Galaha junction. Ask someone there to get the correct bus. As I remember it doesn't far more than 6-7 kilometers from Colombo-Kandy highway.
About Hindagala temple
Hindagala temple is very important place in Sri Lankan history since the Hindagala temple is related to many of ancient legends and amazing wall paintings. The architecture of the Hindagala Temple is also wonderful. The vihara geya is totally built under a natural large rock. You can see many of ancient architectural technologies such as "Kataram" and wooden joints.
Beyond Hindagala Temple
If it's not rainy day, you can climb up to the hill beyond the Hindagala temple and have a watch very beautiful scenes of Gampola and Peradeniya area. At the top of the hill there is a Pinus plantation and meditation center. Very silent and peaceful environment is ideal for such purpose.
