Sri Dalada Maligawa, The temple of tooth, Temple of the tooth relic, ශ්රී දළදා මාළිගාව

The old Sinhalese capital is
Kandy and it has many places of interest such as
Peradeniya Botanical Garden,
temples and Buddhist monuments. One of which is
Sri Dalada Maligawa (
Temple of the Tooth or
temple of the tooth relic), considered the most important site for the Buddhists of the world as it is home to a relic of
Lord Buddha.
Sangamitha and
Mahinda, the daughter and son of the
Emperor Asoka – the first Buddhist king - were Buddhist emissaries to
Sri Lanka and brought with them a tooth of
Buddha, which was placed in
Temple of Tooth. They also planted a branch of his bodhi tree in
Anuradhapura. Don’t miss seeing this famous temple and the vast statue of Buddha while your travel in Sri Lanka.
